S.A. Black is buried in Swaggerty-Garrett Cemetery, a small, inactive family cemetery north of Newport, TX. His headstone indicates that he was "Killed by lightning while visiting the sick."

This is the final resting place of Samuel Arnold Black, a Freemason and Civil War veteran who, unfortunately, was an example of the proverb that no good deed goes unpunished. Interestingly, his headstone faces in the opposite direction of all the others here, and the inscription is:
