This flora and fauna sign is located at a pull-out along the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive in Big Bend National Park.
The sign reads as follows:
"INVISIBLE WILDLIFE
The desert appears deserted at noon. Except for a few lizards in the pink flash for Western Coachwhip snake, nothing moves across ground the can reach temperatures 150*F.
The apparent emptiness reflects biological adaptations. To the patient observer, the scene can reveal animals especially attuned to desert extremes. The jackrabbit in the shade of a creosote bush, the kangaroo rat deep in its burrow, mule deer hidden in an arroyo, are all merely waiting for evening’s cooler temperatures."
