Flood of 4 January 1936:
This flood of the Sèvre Niortaise was the most important of the twentieth century.
Indeed, the water level at the Vieux Ponts reached 14.18 meters.
The decline was not effective until 14 January.
The inhabitants of the lower avenue of Paris were also inundated by the overflow of the spring "Bouillounouse".
The damage is very important and the emotion is great in the population.
The Municipal Council then issued a public subscription which reached 70,000 francs, made available to the Prefect.
Anecdote:
The Municipal Council of Niort then emerged an old project of 1906 to "cut the Boucle de Bessac".
This project would consist of a canal between "Fleuriau" and "Saint-Martin".
Flood of 21 December 1982:
On Tuesday, December 21, 1982 at 4 am the flood to the old bridges reached 14.15 m.
That is 3 cm less than that of 1936.
La Sèvre Niortaise had not reached such a level of flood since 1936.
It was at 8 o'clock on Tuesday, December 21 that the recession began.
Over the town of Niort more than 300 houses have been flooded.
There were more than 450 fire brigade interventions over the three days.
La Sèvre transported more water in 1982 than in 1936.
However, this water evacuated more easily in 1982.
Between 1936 and 1982, the course and the banks of the Sèvre had undergone improvements.
Crue du 4 janvier 1936:
Cette crue de la Sèvre Niortaise fut la plus importante du XXè siècle.
En effet, le niveau de l'eau aux Vieux Ponts atteignit 14,18 mètres.
La décrue na fut effective qu'à partir du 14 janvier.
Les habitants du bas de l'avenue de Paris furent aussi inondés par le débordement de la source "Bouillounouse".
Les dégâts sont très importants et l'émotion est grande dans la population.
Le Conseil municipal lança alors une souscription publique qui atteint 70 000F, mise à la disposition du Préfet.

Le conseil Municipal de Niort ressort alors un vieux projet de 1906 pour "couper la Boucle de Bessac".
Ce projet consisterait à réaliser un canal entre "Fleuriau" et "Saint-Martin".
Crue du 21 décembre 1982:
Le mardi 21 décembre 1982 à 4 h du matin la crue aux vieux ponts atteignait 14,15 m.
Soit 3 cm de moins que celle de 1936.
La Sèvre Niortaise n’avait pas atteint un tel niveau de crue depuis 1936.
C’est à 8h, ce mardi 21 décembre que commença la décrue.
Sur la ville de Niort plus de 300 habitations ont été inondées.
Il y eut plus de 450 interventions des pompiers sur ces trois jours.
La Sèvre transporta plus d’eau en 1982 qu’en 1936.
Cette eau s’est toutefois évacuée plus aisément en 1982.
Entre 1936 et 1982, le cours et les berges de la Sèvre avaient subis de améliorations.
