The original fort was rebuilt around 1566 as a Renaissance chateau and became the seat of the Lords of Zdar.
In 1701 acquired the castle and estate Kladno Anna Maria Francis, Grand Duchess of Tuscany. The castle but soon sold to Benedictine.
The Baroque chateau acquired appearance after reconstruction in 1705 by Kilian Ignaz Dienzenhofer.
The chateau was again rebuilt in the 90's 20th century. Now it houses the chateau gallery, Sládecek museum and branch city library. The museum in chateau presents the history of the region for Kladno. The building adjoins with the renovated chateau garden.
