Príncipe Felipe Sciences Museum was designed by the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava. It is part of the vast City of Arts and Sciences complex that was begun in July 1996 and completed on October 9, 2005. The three story Science Museum occupies an area of 42,000 sq. meters and has 26,000 sq. meters of exhibition space.
The ticket offices, restaurants, shops, etc and access to the the Santiago Grisolía Auditorium are located on the ground floor in an area called the Calle Menor. This part is open free to the public and is the venue for a number of exhibitions throughout the year.
The first floor has interactive, "hands on" science exhibits. The second floor is devoted to "The Legacy of Science" with exhibits on the life and research of three Spanish Nobel Laureates: Santiago Ramón y Cajal, Severo Ochoa and Jean Dausset. The third floor has an exhibit on the sequencing of human DNA and a dinosaur exhibit covering the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. Also there is a Space Simulator, an interactive module that reproduces three stages in the preparation of a space launch to the International Space Station.
