A 2.45 by 1.46 by 1.98 meter harmonious, bronze, group sculpture is located on the east side of the Plaça de Catalunya. It stands 10' on top of a stone base at the right side of a set of steps leading up to the Plaça de Catalunya. It is dedicated to Tarragona, one of the four provinces of Catalonia.
The group is composed of five virtually nude of semi-nude life-sized figures. A man is seated at one corner of the sculpture. He has a cloth draped over his knees. A teenager girl is standing in the middle. She is holding a basket of fruit over her head. A standing woman is holding a flower in her left hand and pouring water from a jug with her right hand. The second standing woman is holding a basket of flowers in front of her body. A seated woman who has a fishing net draped across her upper thighs. The seated figures are on diagonally opposite each other. The teenage girl is standing in the middle. The seated women are diagonally opposite each other. The sculpture was created by Jaume Otero in 1928 and cast by the Gabriel Bechini Foundry of Barcelona.
The sculpture, is considered as a homage to the Mediterranean. The city of Tarragona was the Roman capital of Tarraco, a key port on the Mediterranean. Features such as the flowers, basket of fruit, and fishing net are further references to the Mediterranean context of the work.
