[EN] Arromanches is in the center of the landing area, Gold Beach, framed by steep cliffs, sees the disembarkation of the 50th Northumberland English division which gradually destroys blockhouse and German obstacles. Arromanches is released on June 6 in the evening and by June 7, the first boats are sunk. On June 8, the first Phoenix caissons were immersed. On June 14, the first unloads began. Completely operational from the beginning of July, the artificial port of Arromanches will prove its value during the great offensive of Montgomery mid-July on Caen. For a week, more than 18,000 tons of goods will be landed every day.
The remains of the artificial port are still visible at Arromanches and a few tens of PHOENIX caissons. A true masterpiece of engineering, Arromanches' artificial harbor was the key to victory in Europe.

Arromanches est libéré le 6 juin au soir et dès le 7 juin, les premiers bâteaux sont coulés. Le 8 juin, les premiers caissons Phoenix sont immergés. Le 14 juin, les premiers déchargements commencent. Complètement opérationnel dès le début du mois de juillet, le port artificiel d'Arromanches prouvera sa valeur lors de la grande offensive de Montgomery mi-juillet sur Caen. Pendant une semaine, plus de 18.000 tonnes de marchandises seront débarquées tous les jours.
Les vestiges du port artificiel sont encore visibles à Arromanches et quelques dizaines de caissons PHOENIX. Véritable chef d'oeuvre d'ingénierie, le port artificiel d'Arromanches fut la clé de la victoire en Europe.
