Casa Calvet is a building designed by Antoni Gaudí for the textile manufacturer Eduard Calvet. It is located in the middle of a residential street in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The ground floor and basement are used by businesses while the upper floors serve as residences.
Casa Calvet is one of the less flamboyant of Gaudí's works. It however does feature such Gaudi features as curves and double gable at the top, a projecting oriel at the entrance and such modernistic details as bulging balconies alternate with smaller, shallower balconies. At the top of the façade are double pediments with two axle trees made in forged iron, crowned by forged iron crosses.
The columns flanking the entrance are in the form of stacked bobbins, a reference to the the textile manufacturing business of the owner. Three sculpted heads at the roofline are: Sant Pere, Màrtir Calvet i Carbonell, the owners father's patron, and the Saint Genis notary and Saint Genis comedian the patron saints of Eduard Calvet's birthplace, Vilassar de Mar.
In 1900, Casa Calvet received an award for the best building of the year from the Barcelona City Council.
