"The Tennessee River Museum (TRM) is a 501(C)3 corporation founded in 1992. The TRM is located in the historic old post office building immediately west of the courthouse in downtown Savannah. The building was constructed in 1939 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is staffed by the Hardin County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Dedicated to commemoration, preservation, and education, the TRM also plays an important role in promoting heritage tourism. With almost 2 million annual visitors to Pickwick and Shiloh, tourism is the economic development engine for our community.

"The museum is a Shiloh National Military Park Cooperating site, Trail of Tears National Historic Trail designated site and a Tennessee Heritage Trail site. The museum has enjoyed partnerships with the USDA, National Park Service, IBM, the State of Tennessee, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Geographic Society, and others.

"The Tennessee River Museum is the realization of a community shared vision. When a new post office was proposed, citizens envisioned a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Tennessee River Valley and offering future generations a look into the area’s rich historical past. The Tennessee River Museum opened its doors to the public in 1992, and since that time, thousands of visitors have been enjoying the exhibits and learning about the region’s past.

"The Tennessee River Museum is located 15 miles from Shiloh National Military Park in downtown Savannah, Tennessee, and features seven permanent exhibits and a gift shop." ~ Tennessee River Museum
