In Marshfield, and the end of Winslow Cemetery Road, is Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts Audubon.

To get to the sanctuary, follow the directions, taken from the web site:

From Rt 3 north or south: Take exit 12 (Rt 139). Follow Rt 139 east for 3.7 miles to Marshfield Center. Turn right at light onto Webster Street. Follow Webster Street 1.5 miles and turn left onto Winslow Cemetery Road. Sanctuary parking is 0.7 miles ahead (at the end of the road).

The sanctuary is unstaffed, but there is a place to put money within the shelter at the head of the trails. In 2016 the fare was $3 per person. The sanctuary is maintained by the nearby North River Wildlife Sanctuary also in Marshfield.

Webster Sanctuary has over three miles of trails with loops to different habitat areas, whether it is an open pond, an estuary, deciduous woods, or open fields. There are blinds to spot wildlife. From time to time programs are run here, as well.

Over three miles of trails that loop back on themselves, largely flat and going through woods and open fields.

Bird blinds, observation deck, shelter with windows, boat launch area. 0.6 mile round trip handicap accessible trail.

Walking trails only.


Hours of accessibility?: Everyday, dawn to dusk

Poison ivy always around.

Is a permit/fee required?: Yes

$3 Adults, $2 children, paid in a box in the first shelter off the parking lot.
