The plaque is inscribed with the following words:

"THIS GARDEN COMMEMORATES
A GREAT LOVE OF ROSES
BY THE LATE
JOHN HENRY QUINE, AND HIS WIFE
AND WAS ESTABLISHED
WITH THE AID OF A SUBSTANTIAL
BEQUEST FROM THEM"

John Henry Quine was a poet and author of "Songs of Mona" which is mentioned in the Library of Congress report for the fiscal year ended 30 June 1937
