It is a Greek Revival structure with simple geometric forms and classical details, and yet it is eclectic in nature, incorporating several styles.
The construction was influenced by styles that were popular in Galveston, the home of its builder.
In 1860, the year of its construction, the main body of the house was square with a central north-south hall and four main rooms.
Attached to the square structure were four flanker rooms with connecting porches and the large room that eventually became the kitchen.
The only major modifications to the exterior were the enclosure of the two side porches and the extension of the northeast, flanker room.
