The Swan Inn has recently re-opened after being refurbished. The name on the building is now The Swan Inn but on the sign it is The Swan.

The hanging pub sign shows a picture of a swan standing with its wings up. The swan on pub signs can be heraldic or related to birds of the area.

The Swan is mentioned in an account written in - Talke, Talke Pits and Butt Lane in 1912 - Whitehill Online. (visit link)
"In Talke we have three public houses, The Swan, The Caldwell Arms and The Old Queens Head, I wouldn’t be surprised if these pubs were still here in a hundred years.

Walter Hulse is the landlord of The Swan.
William Wainwright, The Caldwell Arms.
William Kerry, The Old Queens Head.
The pubs, along with the 6 beer retailers should more than satisfy the thirsts of the local men, that’s what the vicar says anyway."

An old photograph of the pub can be seen on the following website: (visit link)
