One of 5 grave marker style state historic markers in the cemetery, this grave marker commemorates the life of Samuel Theodore Smith, a Confederate veteran who moved to Crockett County in 1891 and built many of the buildings that define the look of the city, and that are still being used today.

Marker Text:
(Sept. 7, 1846 - Dec. 26, 1925) A Confederate veteran, of 18th La. Cav. Bn., Civil War. Born in Louisiana. Came to Texas in 1872; to Ozona, 1891. Built city's first school, first courthouse, Baptist church, other structures. Married Alice Crimm, March 1, 1876. Had three children. Recorded - 1970
