Brownwood Bulletin Article

The stories told on Pitts Saturday morning - After a mercifully brief ceremony outside the Santa Fe Depot and Cultural Center where Brownwood Mayor Bert V. Massey II stated the purpose for being there and Pitts' grandchildren Amarie Pitts and her cousin J.C. Pitts pulled the white sheet from the bronze bust of their grandfather - are legendary now, but all true, swore their tellers.

State Sen. Troy Fraser sent his regrets to Pitts' widow, Johnnie Beth Pitts, and wrote in a letter read aloud by Stuart Coleman, "I would guess Groner knew more decision-makers and had more political clout than anyone of our time."

Coleman presented Johnnie Beth Pitts with a Texas flag that had flown over the State Capitol on March 2, 2005, Texas Independence Day.
