An 1890 fire destroyed every single building on this side of the square, save the Paschall Building at the north end of the block. A rebuild took place, including construction of this building in 1900, and at some point during the period of significance, most of the buildings on this side of the square, including this one, received modifications to their storefronts to incorporate modern aluminum frame pane glass windows and doors. Despite the alterations of 1947 and the 1960s, this one fit into the district very well. Like some of the other buildings in the district, this one had survived multiple fires, but it couldn't handle this latest one. It was a total loss.
