A massive fire engulfed 3500 hectares of the Masif des Calanques in August 1990 due probably to the arid climate combined with high winds. Nearly 50 years will be needed for the Aleppo pine forest, located on the plateau above the creek, to naturally recreate itself thanks to the dissemination of the seeds of the rare trees spared by the flames. The fire remains the main scourge affecting the Mediterranean forest: 30 000 ha burn on average every year in France. The fires are caused by voluntary firings and especially imprudences (cigarette butts, barbecues, stoves, camp fires).
