At the top of the 'cylindrical' column of cemented water-rounded rocks is an inscription on a round concrete collar, of: "We will remember them"
I am not sure when 'life-sized Digger' was added as the War Memorial Register has a different looking memorial, and the original Memorial looked like:

Since then the concrete steps have been painted a 'lemon-cream' colour, and 'the Digger' attached, with a plaque on the southern side.

The plaque reads:

Description of Memorial:
The rocks used in the pillar seem to be naturally weathered and rounded before being cemented into a metre high pedestal. It is on three square concrete steps, painted a light lemon; and 3" metal pipe bollards, some with metal chain between them, allow limited access to the memorial. The plaque is mounted on a low concrete plinth. There is a bronze sun dial just to the south of the Digger memorial.
