Bill Thomas, longtime owner of the Ethan Allen furniture store that was here at 200 W Oak St, died in March of 2016, and unfortunately, his store, a long-time fixture on the Denton Square, followed him in May. This building is attached, and was also used by Ethan Allen. J.T. Clothiers moved into the W Oak building in 2016, and we'll have to see what the future holds for this one.

The National Register's Continuation Sheet (see link to narrative) does not focus on this building as it does for several other key buildings in the district, such as the Evers and Scripture buildings. It mentions that the west side of the square has had the worst luck with fires, surviving six of them between 1860 and 1994, and 205 N Elm was built in 1921, another latecomer to the district. Alterations were made in 1931 and the 1980s -- note how its façade matches that of its neighbor -- but this building satisfies all of the National Register's criteria to be considered a contributing building.
