[EN] For a week, five artists were busy in the Crécy forest. They carved the trunks of five remarkable trees, on the theme of "tales and legends Picardy".
The sound of chainsaws resounds in the clearing of the Muguet, on the RD 111, which crosses the forest of Crécy-en-Ponthieu. Yet no tree is slaughtered. On the contrary.
Artists - five in number and chosen by a jury - are busy giving them a second youth, by carving them, with the chainsaw then. This project of monumental sculptures, the theme of which is "legends and tales of Picardy", is sponsored by the mixed union Baie de Somme 3 valleys, in partnership with the National Forestry Authority and the Authie-Maye community of communes.
Alain Lafortune is a carpenter cabinetmaker. His challenge was to give life to the trunk of a 4-meter beech tree, to recount "the legend in the wood of the cahières" or "the displeased amours of Eleyne, goddaughter of Jean de Luxembourg and of Wauthier, a young clerk." "The complexity will be to empty the inside of the trunk, leaving only a ribbon of bark around the silhouette," he explains, before specifying: "But the wood is perfect, just right! "
