The external facade of the building known as Borough Hall (formerly known as the Academy of Music) presents a classic example of the second empire style. The building was constructed in 1881, and is made of brick.
The Borough Hall was commissioned to be built by the Town Council in 1881. It was initially designed for dual use as a fire station and general community hall or theatre. It has always functioned as a public building.
Band concerts, recitals, graduations and vaudeville acts provided cultural entertainment for the community. It served other public fuctions until 1976, when it was given over to functioning soley as Borough Offices.
