Imperial Oil opened a service station here in the late 1920s. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, the manager was Harry McKortle. According to the 1946 Ottawa city directory material, the station in Little Italy was managed by Joseph Dicola. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the station was run by Johnny Closs. By 1958, the station was known as Henry's Esso Service.
In the 1960s, the station was run by Bernard Lynch who also managed the station at 467 Bronson. A very new Petro-Canada gas station is now at 467 Bronson.
In recent decades, Frisby Tires has been the business operating at 896 Somerset. The taller portion of the building to the east dates from the 1980s. The gas pumps were removed when Frisby Tires took over.
