Marienkapelle Ecke Plaidter Straße - Andernacher Straße
Nach mündlicher Überlieferung wird um 1790 eine erste Marienkapelle "Auf dem Eck" gestiftet. Die am Zusammenlauf von Plaidter Straße und Andernacher Straße errichtete Kapelle findet 1826 erstmals urkundliche Erwähnung: im Kataster wird Angela Zeppenfeld - Begründerin einer Stiftung für bedürftige Menschen in Saffig - als Eigentümerin genannt. 1948 wird die Marienkapelle wegen Behinderung des Verkehrs von ihrem ursprünglichen Standort - im Übrigen in unmittelbarer Nähe einer Gastwirtschaft ("Zum Schwanen") - entfernt.

Am Zusammenlauf von Hauptstraße und Ochtendunger Straße, integriert in die Mauer des Schlossparks, wird 1948 eine neue Marienkapelle errichtet. Die Einsegnung des Neubaus durch Pfarrer Peter Diederich erfolgt am 8. Dezember 1948 (Hochfest Mariä Empfängnis). Nach nur sieben Jahren wird die Marienkapelle 1955 von ihrem neuen Standort entfernt - erneut wegen Behinderung des Verkehrs.

1955 erweitert und erneuert die Dorfgemeinde Saffig den Dorfplatz, die feierliche Einweihung erfolgt am 14. August 1955. Im folgenden Jahr wird auf dem Dorfplatz eine neue Marienkapelle errichtet - wiederum integriert in die Mauer des angrenzenden Schlossparks. Die Einsegnung des Neubaus nimmt Pfarrer Maximilian Langen vor. Eine weitere Neugestaltung des Dorfplatzes - jetzt Peter-Friedhofen-Platz - im Jahr 1979 hat keine Auswirkungen auf den Standort der Marienkapelle. Erst der Bau der Von-der-Leyen-Halle 1999/2000 erzwingt einen erneuten Standortwechsel.

1999 wird mit dem Bau der Von-der-Leyen-Halle begonnen, im folgenden Jahr kann die Mehrzweckhalle in Betrieb genommen werden. Dem für die Infrastruktur der Ortsgemeinde Saffig wichtigen Neubau muss die Marienkapelle auf dem Dorfplatz zunächst weichen. Auf Initiative der Jungen Union wird jedoch 2001 in unmittelbarer Nähe der Von-der-Leyen-Halle eine neue Kapelle errichtet. An der Realisierung des Neubaus sind neben den Mitgliedern der Jungen Union zahlreiche ehrenamtliche Helfer beteiligt, die Patenschaft über die neu erbaute Kapelle übernimmt die katholische Frauengemeinschaft. 2012 renovieren Junge Union und katholische Frauengemeinschaft gemeinsam die vierte Marienkapelle "auf dem Eck" - ein religiöses Denkmal mit einer wahrhaft bewegten Vergangenheit.

According to oral tradition, a first chapel of the Virgin Mary "Auf dem Eck" was donated around 1790. The chapel, erected at the confluence of Plaidterstraße and Andernacher Strasse, was first mentioned in 1826. In the cadastre, Angela Zeppenfeld - the founder of a foundation for needy people in Saffig - was named as the owner. In 1948 the Marienkapelle was removed from its original location because of the handicap of the traffic - in the immediate vicinity of a restaurant ("Zum Schwanen").

At the confluence of Hauptstraße and Ochtendungerstrasse, integrated into the wall of the castle park, a new chapel of the Virgin Mary was erected in 1948. The consecration of the new building by the priest Peter Diederich took place on 8 December 1948 (High Festival of the Virgin Mary). After only seven years, the Marienkapelle was removed from its new location in 1955 - again because of the handicap of traffic.

On the initiative of the Junge Union, however, a new chapel was erected in 2001 in the immediate vicinity of the Von der Leyen hall. In addition to the members of the Junge Union, numerous volunteer helpers are involved in the realization of the new building. The Catholic women's community is sponsored by the newly built chapel. 2012 Young Union and Catholic women's community jointly renovate the fourth Marienkapelle "on the corner" - a religious monument with a truly moving past.
