Pantego Academy- Pantego,NC - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

Built in 1874 as a Male and Female Academy. The state was not much in the education field at that time, so local citizens donated time and money to build this facility. Started as a private school but changed to public school in 1907. Original class consisted of 27 students. Was used as high school until new school was built. Next used as elementary school then as lunchroom for high school until phased out of use in 1966. Outstanding feature is the stairway to second floor with archway to lower floor front doorway. Open Saturday and Sunday 2-4 with free admission.
