This interpretive sign inside of the reconstructed Northwest bastion of the Presidio to San Saba at Menard, which would have been filled with earth nearly to the top when the Presidio was active, but has been left unfilled so that visitors can experience the feeling of being surrounded by thick Presidio walls.
The sign reads as follows:
"NW BASTION
It is believed that this bastion was filled with earth nearly to the top to support cannons. The crenellated top a 1937 interpretation."
