The bricole is a piece of medieval artillery. Made up of a pendulum called a rod at the end of which is attached a pocket containing projectiles (balls, sometimes the men prisoners sent back in their camp), it was operated by pulling on the other end of the pendulum, the traction being facilitated by the addition of a counterweight.
The Château des Baux-de-Provence is the only site in the South of France with working siege engines. These faithful re-enactments of real-size machines draw real projectiles and allow us to relive the atmosphere of a siege in the Middle Ages.
