The cannon balls are stacked 9 rows high, with a 9 cannon ball face row for each base line. The entire monument is about 12 feet high from the road, and about 6 feet high from base to pinnacle.
Located on the banks of the beautiful Tennessee River, the home served as headquarters for General U. S. Grant in the spring of 1862. Grant’s breakfast was interrupted by couriers with news that the Battle of Shiloh had begun.
