Between 1318 and 1319 the Scots frequently raided the North of England. After the Battle of Bannockburn the Scots captured Wetherby and burnt the town down and took or murdered many of the townsfolk.

The plaque reads

“Perhaps named after 18th century Scottish drovers who used it as a watering place, or after Scottish raiders who destroyed Wetherby in 1318. This building once housed Mrs Emily Wardman’s Museum. The Wardman family have given many teats of service to this town.”
