The Great River Road in Minnesota has both a National Route and (on the other side of the Mississippi River) a State Route. Crow Wing State Park is on a spur of the National Route between Brainerd and Little Falls.
The spur road ends at the state park's picnic grounds on the banks of the Mississippi, near canoe sites and a boardwalk through a historic town site. This location meets several of the criteria of this National Scenic Byway (historic, scenic, recreational). It is as close as you can get to the Mississippi on this stretch of the Great River Road.
A state park vehicle permit is required. Good at any Minnesota state park, vehicle permits cost $5 per day or $25 for a year.
