"The Lesser Town palace of the famous aristocratic family of Lobkowicz was built by architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi between 1702 and 1704. The Lobkowicz family acquired the estate in 1753 from its original owner, Count František Karel Prehorovský, whose name the palace used to have: The Prehorovský Palace. The monumental facade is decorated with Corinthian pillars. The lower part of the oval buttress extending into the garden features a salla terrena decorated in Viennese

Baroque style. The garden gradually transforming as it climbs the hill was extended in 1790 and modified into an English park. This was the first alpine garden in Bohemia.
In the autumn of 1989, the garden became refuge to many citizens of former East Germany, who all climbed the garden fence and applied for political asylum at the embassy. This event accelerated the fall of the Berlin Wall and thus became one of the symbols of the end of Communist regimes in Eastern Europe."
