In 1875 settler Guy Riesen dammed Mill Creek to divert some of its clean cool spring water into his garden and gardens of a few neighbors. Later a gristmill operated at this location and the water from the gristmill helped supply water to the courthouse to fill water troughs for horses.

In 2016, the San Saba Springs and Mill Pond still provides water for this community. The springs have been beautifully landscaped and incorporated into a lovely walking path around Mill Pond as part of a major community investment in Mill Pond Park.
