"The Point Arena Garage (ca. 1935) is a long stucco structure with two large service bay openings in the Main Street facade. The major part of the building is -flat roofed, however there is a -front-facing gable near the north end of the building. A carport canopy with modern gasoline pumps is at the center of the facade. A glass entry door and plate glass window for the station office are under the canopy. Other windows, one large and one small, are multi—paned and appear to be fixed. The Point Arena garage is one of a number of structures in the downtown commercial district relating to the importance of the automobile in the local economy. Motor vehicles dramatically changed the way residents of the Point Arena area did business. As the number of cars and trucks increased, the need for fuel and service grew also. The Halliday Garage opened on this site in the teens to meet the demand. The current structure, larger and more? modern, was built sometime later. It contributes to the historic district in all respects. The site, incidentally, has been associated with transportation since before the coming of the automobile: A livery stable occupied this location as early as 1891." (
