The sign says, "Welcome to the Union Dam trail. As you travel on the trail, take time to reflect on the past. The Union Dam trail leads to a site where early industry helped shape the development of this county. This trail descends to the Patapsco River and former site of the Union Dam.

The dam, originally built in 1808, was removed in 2010 to restore fish passage and allow the river to safely recover its natural course. Also on this trial you will see the B&O Railroad and the historic US Route 40 Bridge. For more information on this historic area plea check the Patapsco Valley State Park website."
