For reasons unknown to us, the state of Texas has chosen to place two historic markers at this location with the same name but with different text. Both markers are located in front of the house, which is now a bed-and-breakfast. To reach these markers, you must go down a long unpaved driveway that leads to the B&B.
This waymarked marker is what the Texas Historical Commission is calling a "Tree marker." It is the marker on the left, which looks like a smaller version of the standard plate-style historic marker.
The marker address is 222 Baker St.
Marker Number: 9410
Marker Text: Between these trees Wm. Willis took refuge on Dec. 24, 1866, but was shot fatally by Indians. He was riding a mule to a dance when attacked.
Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, 1967
