"History
In 1966, the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (in conjunction with the St. Lawrence Parks Commission) investigated the potential value of certain recreational sites within its watershed. Included in this study was Parrott’s Bay, a wetland marsh located just west of Amherstview. The area was examined, both by foot and by canoe, by a field reconnaissance at the time. Although no move was made in 1966 towards acquisition of the wetland, the area was considered to be of value for conservation purposes. The property has been designated as public recreation area since 1969 by Ernestown Township Council to preclude development. As a public recreation area, Parrott’s Bay has been a source of passive enjoyment for canoeists, anglers, and naturalists. For over ten years, Ernestown Township bought these lands from private landowners, with the idea that the CRCA would eventually buy these lands from them. In the early 1990s, the CRCA bought most of the land surrounding Parrott’s Bay from Ernestown Township. The final piece of land was bought in 2006." (
