It was destroyed in 1646 near the end of the Thirty Years' War. Since 1879, the ruin of Burg Gleiberg has been owned by the Gleiberg Association, which strives to preserve it. It is today a nice place to visit. You can climb the tower and have a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. There is restaurant with a beer garden located in a building in the inner courtyard of the Unterburg.
