Work of the Russian sculptor Piotr Stronsky, this bronze statue measures three meters high and depicts an angel holding a palm branch as a symbol of peace. The angel himself is a symbol of mercy and friendship.
The inscription reads:
"To the French people from the Russians in commemoration of the First World War 100th anniversary, the Hotel Carlton Century Celebrations and the 400th anniversary of Romanov House in sign of friendship and mutual respect."
An angel, especially according to Abrahamic religions and Zoroastrianism, is a spiritual being superior to humans in power and intelligence. Angels are typically described as benevolent, dreadful, and endowed with wisdom and knowledge of earthly events, but not infallible; for they strive with each other, and God has to make peace between them. Most of them serve either as intermediaries between Heaven and Earth, or as guardian spirits. In fine art, angels are usually depicted as having the shape of human beings of extraordinary beauty; they are often identified using the symbols of bird wings, halos, and light.
