I could find very little history of the Training Area on the internet. Suffice it to say that being established in 1938 it would have been of important use during WWII. Purely speculative but one could also imagine that the waterfront location may have been an important training ground for amphibious assaults that took place along the coasts of France, Belgium and Italy.

Today the training area looks like it is mainly a shooting range and 'basic' training type facilities with an obstacle course visible near the public road.
Era: WW II
