In 1973, Jimmy Thomas built from the ground up the East Alabama Motor Speedway, one of the south's most famous and longest running motor racing attractions. The track received NASCAR sanction in 1978. Jimmy Thomas passed away in 1980 and his son Billy took over the operations of the track. Today it remains in the Thomas family.

It is a 3/8 mile high banked clay oval.
