This fountain is one of two lion fountains at the entrances of Patio de Leon. Located off of Main St. at the southern end of the Patio de Leon. The other fountain being located at the northern entrance off of First St.
Patio de Leon was originally built in 1913 - 1915 by a retired banker and/or drug store owner from Benton Harbor, Michigan known as Peter Tonnelier and was called Tonnelier Court.
In 1924 the courtyard was sold to George R. Sims, who remodeled and renamed it Patio de Leon. Sims incorporated lion motifs through out the courtyard and entrances resulting in the Patio de Leon name.
