At the site of the present house was originally two medieval houses originating from the 13th century. On the north side of the house 'U Melounu', first mentioned in the year 1401, on the south side of the house 'U Kryštofora' called later Reinhartovský, referred to the year 1407. The House 'U Melounu' was in the Gothic style, after the mid-16th century and the Renaissance. Similarly, the house U Kryštofora underwent Renaissance and Baroque reconstruction. After 1760, both houses were united by Rudolf Chotek, from that time that the late Baroque aedicule portal. Since December 2014, it houses the Bavarian Representation in Prague.

ato architektonicky pozoruhodná stavba cp. 432 v Michalské ulici c.12 na Starém Meste pražském vznikla renesancní a pozdne barokní prestavbou již dríve zde stojících dvou gotických objektu. Po tom severneji situovaném dostal jméno U Zlatého melounu dnešní dum. V gotické podobe byl dvoupatrový a ve své stavební hmote zustal zachován až do pudního prostoru. Zatímco název se uvádí až roku 1422, první listinné záznamy o dome cp. 432 se objevují již v roce 1401. Jeho jižní soused se v šestnáctém století nazýval U Kryštofora a o dve století pozdeji pak Reinhartovský.

Rozhodující okamžik ve stavebních dejinách techto objektu nastal, když se zacátkem osmnáctého století postupne dostaly do držení rodiny Chotku z Chotkova a Vojnína. Jan Nepomuk Rudolf hrabe Chotek (1748-1824) a po nem i další, predevším jeho syn, Karel hrabe Chotek (1783-1862), nechali objekty stavebne spojit a sjednotit podlaží. Dum, který získal tímto stavebním pocinem spíše charakter paláce, dostal jednotnou fasádu. V té dobe bylo též do interiéru vestaveno monumentální schodište.

V dome U Zlatého melounu byla od roku 1828 známá tanecní škola Karla Linky, kterou roku 1851 navštevovali mezi jinými také Jan Neruda, Vítezslav Hálek, Josef Barák a Adolf Heyduk. O této skutecnosti nás informuje i príslušná pametní deska na prucelí domu. Práve Jan Neruda se zde seznámil se svojí velkou láskou Annou Holinovou, která vešla do ceské literární historie jako jeho „vecná nevesta“.
