Binghamton University used to be Harpur College. This monolith used to be at the campus entrance. It was moved to the center of the campus.

Around the seal is "State University of New York 1948. Let each become all he is capable of being." There is a shield in the center with a book on top. Below is the New York coat of arms, the same as on the flag of New York
