Duane Leroy Bliss was a major land and timber owner and owned a lumber company which logged millions of board feet of timber from the Lake Tahoe region in the mid-to-late 1800s. He later opened a resort for tourism and donated some of his land to the State of California which named D. L. Bliss State Park in his honor.
