Large complex of Klementinum is situated next to the Charles Bridge, right in the historical centre of Prague. Klementinum, built on area of 2 hectares, is one of the largest building complexes in Europe.
The extensive grounds of the Clementinum were built from the mid-16th century to the mid-18th century, originally as a Jesuit dormitory. The guided tour includes the Astronomical Tower, where meteorological measurements have been collected since 1775; the Meridian Hall; and the Baroque Library Hall with beautiful frescoes and historically valuable globes. The Mirror Chapel with its richly designed interior and unique installation of mirrors is a place where classical music concerts take place regularly.
In the Astronomical Tower, 68 m high, with beautiful views of Prague, there is an exhibition of historical measuring instruments and information about the history of the tower. There is an elevator available, but only to the 3rd floor, from where there is still 87 stairs left.
Baroque Library Hall is adorned with gorgeous Science and Art themed frescoes. In the hall there is a set of foreign language printed theological literature and several large historically valuable globes.
Meridian Hall on the second floor of the tower is a unique room, previously used for determining noon. On the walls of the hall there are original astronomical instruments.
