This is the first time I have encountered a centenarian headstone in an abandoned cemetery. I would suggest that you visit this cemetery in winter or early spring when the weeds are down. They can get ugly. (We were fortunate to come on a 55°F winter day.) The grave marker is all the way at the back -- east end -- of the cemetery.
James was born on 14 August 1807 in Tennessee. Many folks who initially settled the Ozarks were from Tennessee, Virginia, or one of the Carolinas. He married Jane Walker (1831-1900) who was 24 years his junior (common back then). They had 3 children -- the first when Jane was only 17 years old.
Jane passed away near the end of 1900 when she was 69 years old and James was 93 years old. James continued on almost 13 years until 2 February 1913, a half a year older than 105. He had lived through the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Spanish American War, and died just before World War I.
