Die ehemalige Brikettfabrik Witznitz war bis ins Jahr 1992 in Betrieb. Ihren Namen trägt die Fabrik von dem Ort Witznitz, welcher zwischen 1941 und 1944 dem Braunkohleabbau weichen musste. Mit der Fabrik wurde die nebenan abgebaute Braunkohle zu Kohlebriketts veredelt.
Nach der Stilllegung der Fabrikanlage 1992 wurden Teile des Areals rückgebaut und die Technik entfernt. Seit dem werden die gelben Klinkermauerwerk-Gebäude nach und nach saniert. Ziel ist eine Mischnutzung aus Arbeiten, Wohnen, Kultur- und Freizeiterlebnissen auf dem ehemaligen Gelände zu etablieren. Aktuell sind in einzelnen Gebäuden moderne Büros, Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsräume sowie hochwertige Loftwohnungen untergebracht. Der Bereich des ehemaligen Bahnanschlusses wurde bereits mit Einfamilienhäuser bebaut.
Die übrigen Fabrikgebäude sollen in Zukunft ebenfalls restauriert und einer neuen Verwendung zugeführt werden.

The former Brikettfabrik Witznitz was in operation until 1992. Its name bears comes from the name of the town of Witznitz, which had to leave for the brown coal mining between 1941 and 1944. With the factory the brown coal was refined to coal bricks.
After the plant was shut down in 1992, parts of the site were dismantled and the technology removed. Since then, the yellow clinker brick buildings have gradually been renovated. The aim is to establish mixed use of work, housing, cultural and leisure activities on the former site. Modern buildings, exhibition and event rooms as well as high-quality loft apartments are currently housed in individual buildings. The area of the former railway connection has already been built with single-family houses.
The remaining factory buildings shall also be restored and converted in the future.
