In the Harrietstown village of Saranac Lake is the Harrietstown Town Hall.
The town hall is at the corner of Main Street and New York Route 83, at the north east corner. It is at the south end of the downtown section of the village and near the town park by the lake.
The town hall is a brick building two stories high, with a tall clock tower that has a dome top. The front has a stone portico with four sandstone columns and a few steps up to the front entrance. The tower has an open belfry with bell in it. At the very top is weathervane.
Harrietstown was founded on March 19, 1841, out of the town of Duane. According to the US Census (2010) the population is 5709. Most of the people live in Saranac Lake. The government type listed on the site is 'Supervisor and Council.'
Harrietstown is a rural town in the south east corner of Franklin County. The main village is Saranac Lake.
Saranac Lake was once a place where people came to be healed of tuberculosis. Originally, the healing was through breathing of the fresh mountain air. Dr. Trudeau came up here and was relieved by such methods, then established a laboratory where he studied the disease. The old lab is now a museum, but the lab still conducts research. Today, Saranac Lake is primarily a recreation and tourism destination.
