Cooper Lake State Park is a Texas State Park about three miles (5 km) south of Cooper, Texas. The park is situated on Jim Chapman Lake, formerly known as Cooper Lake.

There are actually two geographically separate units; the Doctors Creek unit 33°20'54?N 95°40'08?W is located on the north side of the lake, in Delta County, while the South Sulphur unit 33°17'49?N 95°39'35?W is located on the south side of the lake.
Cooper Lake, a relatively new state park, offers a variety of both land- and water-based recreational opportunities. Visitors can enjoy the breath-taking sunsets and spectacular scenery by boat, foot or horseback. Day visitors can picnic under towering oak trees, swim at the sandy beach, explore developed trails or boat and fish on the 19,300-acre (7,800 ha) lake. Overnighters can choose from well-appointed cabins, shelters and developed or primitive campsites, including equestrian sites for horses.

Background: Traces of earlier residents lie under the waters of Cooper Lake. Caddo Indians came here thousands of years ago, and settlers and farmers moved into the area in the 1800s.
Immigrants from Tennessee, Kentucky, the Carolinas and Virginia brought in agriculture and livestock and changed the land. Cotton and dairy became the main industries.
