[FR] En 1659, les religieux grands carmes ont reçu l'autorisation de s'installer à Ardres, pour faire oeuvre de charité et enseigner le cathéchisme. Le couvent fut construit en 1675, la chapelle en 1679. La congrégation occupa les lieux jusqu'à la Révolution.
La chapelle a connu des fortunes diverses : édifiée en 1679 par des religieuses puis démantelée, elle devint Temple de l'Etre suprême en 1792, lieu de réunion du club des Montagnards, puis halle municipale.
Les bâtiments furent transformés en 1825, en particulier la chapelle, dont la façade fut modernisée et le volume intérieur coupé dans le sens de la la hauteur : Halle au rez-de-chaussée et salle de fêtes à l'étage. Le mairie y fut installée de 1809 à 1962.
Les Carmes ont été récemment réhabilités, la façade retrouvant son aspect d'origine en 1993. La poste occupe le couvent depuis 1986.
La chapelle est depuis 1994 occupé par l'office du tourisme de l'Ardrésis.

[EN] In 1659, the great Carmelite religious were authorized to settle in Ardres, to do charity and teach the catechism. The convent was built in 1675, the chapel in 1679. The congregation occupied the premises until the Revolution.
The chapel had various fortunes: built in 1679 by nuns and then dismantled, it became Temple of the Supreme Being in 1792, meeting place of the club of the Montagnards, then municipal hall.
The buildings were transformed in 1825, in particular the chapel, the facade of which was modernized and the interior volume cut in the direction of the height: Halle on the ground floor and room of parties on the floor. The town hall was installed there from 1809 to 1962.
The Carmelites were recently rehabilitated, with the façade restored to its original appearance in 1993. The post office has been in the convent since 1986.
The chapel has been occupied since 1994 by the tourist office of the Ardresis.
