"The man who initiated the conversion of Armenia was St. Gregory, called the "Enlightener" or "Illuminator" of Armenia. Gregory was the scion of a noble family and was educated in Caesarea, then a Christian center. He entered the service of King Tiridates of Armenia and after much persecution succeeded in converting the King in AD 301."

"In 1924, this dream was realized when property was purchased from the Ross Memorial Presbyterian Church. In less than a decade, St. Gregory the Illuminator Church would be completed and consecrated...In my mind, there is a real spirit that pervades these smaller parishes from their founding, and I do believe that spirit remains today,” Fr. Findikyan said. “God is present in a particular way in these little, old parishes. You can’t hide behind anything in a small parish, and so no one has to strain to see the sacrifice they make and therefore, no one has to strain to see their love and dedication...The community is also very proud of its Armenian Genocide memorial – a black marble stone dedicated to the victims of the 1915 tragedy, erected and consecrated on Binghamton city property in 2001. Each year, when a dedication service is held on April 24, a tree is planted alongside the monument, with a total of seven flowering trees now lining the memorial.”
